Bison History
Historically, bison roamed over most of the North American continent and have had original population estimates ranging between 30 and 70 million. There are less than 400,000 bison in existence today. The species was brought back from near extinction when the population dipped to as low as six hundred animals. The comeback has been attributed to the health aspects of bison meat.
